The Inventory section identifies a product and controls whether Upstorr should stop selling it when stock reaches zero.

SKU (Stock Keeping Unit)

An SKU is your own short code for finding and tracking an item. It can contain useful information that makes sense to your team.

For example, KURTA-BLU-M can mean blue kurta, medium size. Give every variant a different SKU.

Barcode

A barcode is a scannable product number used in inventory and Point of Sale. For a product without variants, select Generate to create one, then use Print barcode when you need a label.

Variants can each have their own generated or edited barcode.

The preview turns the saved value into printable bars and shows the same value below them. Print barcode opens your device's normal print window; choose the correct label printer and paper size there. If the preview cannot draw the value, correct the barcode before printing instead of using the broken label.

Track quantity

Keep this selected when Upstorr should use the quantity at each location. When it is clear, the product is treated as always in stock.

For bookable physical products, quantity also controls how much booking capacity is available.

Quantity by location

This is the number of pieces available at each place where stock is kept. A product can have 5 pieces at the shop and 12 at the warehouse.

Continue selling when out of stock

Select this only when customers may order even after quantity reaches zero. This is useful for made-to-order or incoming stock. It can create orders that cannot be fulfilled immediately.

Future stock location

This appears for physical variants that continue selling after stock runs out. It tells Upstorr which location is expected to provide the future stock.

For example, a shop has zero pieces but your warehouse will receive the next batch. Choose that warehouse as the future stock location.

Simple example

A medium blue kurta has SKU KURTA-BLU-M, its own barcode, 2 pieces at your shop, and 8 pieces at your warehouse. Keep Track quantity on. Leave Continue selling when out of stock off if you want sales to stop after all 10 pieces are committed.

What you need to know

  • Services and digital products do not use normal product inventory.
  • Products with variants keep these values separately for every variant.
  • In the variant table, choose one location to edit its stock. All locations is a read-only total.
  • Selecting Continue selling when out of stock for a physical variant requires a future stock location.
  • Only staff with inventory permission can change quantities.
  • A barcode helps scanners identify an item; an SKU helps your own team identify it. They are not the same field.
