What this means

You choose who is responsible for arranging the rider and updating delivery progress.

What you need to know

My own rider

Choose this when you use your employee, a local courier, or any rider you arrange yourself. Upstorr does not book that person.

On the order, you move the delivery through its steps: start preparing, mark it ready, assign the rider, mark it picked up, and finally mark it delivered. Rider name is optional and can contain up to 120 characters. Rider phone is optional, but if entered it must be a valid 10-digit Indian number or an international number beginning with +.

Automated rider

Choose this when Upstorr should book a supported local delivery partner through your connected Shiprocket account. The inventory location needs a verified map address, and the products need complete delivery details.

After the order is ready, you can book the delivery. Tracking updates then come from the delivery provider. You can track the rider, check a booking that is taking time, retry a failed booking, or switch that journey to your own rider.

When both are on

Both choices can remain enabled. This gives you flexibility to use automated booking normally and switch a particular delivery to your own rider when needed. The customer still sees one simple Local delivery choice.

Simple example

Your shop normally uses automated riders. During heavy rain no partner accepts a booking, so the order shows that it needs attention. Choose Use own rider, assign your shop rider, and continue updating the same delivery from the order.

Important difference

For your own rider, you are responsible for keeping the status truthful. For an automated rider, do not manually invent tracking progress—the provider sends those updates.
