What this helps you do

Browser notifications tell you when a customer sends a new WhatsApp message to this store, even when its Inbox tab is closed. Clicking an alert opens that conversation.

Alerts hide the customer's name, phone number, and message. Staff only receive alerts for conversations their role allows them to open.

Before you start

  • Open Inbox in a browser that supports background notifications.
  • On iPhone or iPad, add Inbox to your Home Screen and open that installed app first.
  • Allow notifications in your device settings. Focus or Do Not Disturb can hide alerts. If your browser or device stops background activity, delivery can be delayed or unavailable.

Steps

Turn on alerts

  1. Open the store's Inbox.
  2. Click the bell beside the channel name. Its label is Browser notifications.
  3. Click Enable notifications.
  4. Choose Allow when the browser asks.

When notifications are enabled, the panel shows Turn off for this store. Notifications are enabled separately for each browser and store. They stop when that login expires or is revoked; sign in and enable them again when needed.

Turn off alerts

Open Browser notifications and click Turn off for this store. This keeps your other stores' alerts enabled in the same browser.

What happens next

When alerts are on, Upstorr can notify this browser about a new incoming customer message for the selected store. The alert says New customer message and hides the customer's name, phone number, and message. Select the alert to open that conversation.

Upstorr checks your active login, store access, Inbox permission, and conversation access before sending each alert. Signing out, revoking that login, losing store access, or losing access to the conversation stops its alerts.

Common problems

  • Notifications are blocked: Allow notifications in this site's browser settings, then return to Inbox.
  • This browser cannot receive background notifications: Use a supported browser. On iPhone or iPad, use the Home Screen app.
  • Browser notifications are not configured yet: Background delivery has not been configured for this environment.
  • No alert arrives: Check the store, browser and device permissions, your login, and your staff role. Notifications apply to new incoming customer messages, not outgoing messages or old history.

If the browser remains offline, a message alert can expire after five minutes. The customer message remains available in Inbox.
