What this helps you do
Create a reusable WhatsApp message that Meta can review and approve for campaign sends.
Before you start
Connect WhatsApp Business. Decide whether the message is Marketing or Utility according to its real purpose.
Steps
- Open Marketing, WhatsApp, then Templates.
- Select New template.
- Enter a Template name. Upstorr converts it to lowercase words joined by underscores.
- Choose the Language. The current authoring screen supports English.
- Choose Marketing or Utility as the Category.
- Choose a Header: None, Text, Image, Video, or PDF document. Text headers can contain up to 60 characters.
- For Image, Video, or PDF document, select Upload new to add a file from your device, or Select existing to choose one from your media library. Images must be JPEG or PNG and at most 5 MB; videos must be MP4 and at most 16 MB; PDF documents must be at most 10 MB.
- If every campaign should use that same file, leave Different media for each customer off. To give each customer their own file, turn it on. The file selected here is Meta's approval sample; you will add each customer's file link when creating the campaign.
- Write the required Body of up to 1,024 characters. Select Customer name if you want to add
{{customer_name}}; it is the only supported variable. - Select text in the Body and use Bold, Italic, Strikethrough, Bulleted list, or Numbered list to format it. The styling appears in the editor and preview. Upstorr sends WhatsApp's text formatting, and its formatting marks count toward the 1,024-character limit.
- Optionally add a Footer of up to 60 characters and a website button with text and a complete web URL.
- Check the live message preview, then select Create template.
What happens next
The template is sent to Meta. It cannot be used for campaigns until Meta approves it and Upstorr recognises it as active and supported.
Keep the selected file in your media library while the template is in use. The approval sample and the file sent to customers are separate: for a fixed-media template they use the same file, while a personalized campaign uses each customer's imported link.
If Meta refuses the template immediately, Upstorr keeps the form open and shows Meta's available explanation in a visible alert. Correct the message and submit it again. If Meta rejects it after review, open the rejected template from the Templates page to see the reason and suggested checks.
Common problems
- A variable is rejected: only
{{customer_name}}is supported, and only in the Body. - Header or footer variable is rejected: variables are not supported there.
- The website button will not save: enter both button text and a complete web URL.
- The media file will not save: choose a file of the selected type and within its size limit. Ask a store owner for media access if the upload or library buttons are unavailable.
- Meta says the message has too many placeholders: remove a placeholder or add more normal words around the placeholders, then submit again.
- Meta rejects the template after review: open the template to see Meta's reported reason and a checklist of what to change.
- The form returns to WhatsApp: the store no longer has a usable connection.
