What this helps you do

Control which store emails are optional, what sender customers recognise, and how checkout asks for marketing permission.

Before you start

Open SettingsNotifications. Use a real sender address you control. Marketing consent must be optional and must accurately record the customer's choice.

Steps

  1. Enter the Sender email customers should recognise.
  2. If it uses your own domain, save and open Setup Guide.
  3. Copy every shown TXT and CNAME record into that domain's DNS with proxy off.
  4. Return to Upstorr and select Check until the sender is Verified.
  5. Review the Always on email list.
  6. Turn each Optional email on or off for this store.
  7. Under Checkout consent, enable the Email checkbox and WhatsApp checkbox you want to show.
  8. Write clear words beside each enabled checkbox.
  9. Select Save changes.

Understand the sender email

Sender email is the customer-facing From address used for notifications and marketing messages.

  • A public address such as Gmail is allowed only when it exactly matches the merchant account email.
  • Public email providers do not allow Upstorr to send as their domain, so customers see the displayed Upstorr sender instead.
  • An address on your own domain needs DNS authentication before Upstorr switches to it.
  • Verified means all required identity and domain checks passed.

For custom-domain setup, copy the record Type, Name, and Value exactly. TXT and CNAME email-authentication records must be DNS only or proxy off. DNS changes can take time, so leave correct records in place and check again later.

Understand Always on emails

These protect accounts or provide core order information and cannot be turned off:

  • customer order confirmation;
  • merchant order received;
  • password reset;
  • email verification;
  • login OTP codes; and
  • staff invitations.

Understand Optional emails

You can turn these on or off: staff role changes, shipment status updates, returns and exchanges, gift-card activity, product reviews, POS receipts, POS return and exchange receipts, and abandoned-cart reminders.

Turning an optional email off stops that category of future email. It does not delete earlier messages or change the underlying order, shipment, return, gift card, review, or cart.

  • Email checkbox: asks separately for email marketing permission.
  • WhatsApp checkbox: asks separately for WhatsApp marketing permission.
  • Label: the exact sentence the customer sees beside that checkbox.

These are marketing choices, not receipt delivery or required order-contact fields. A customer can provide an email for their order without agreeing to marketing. Keep each label clear and never pre-write wording that hides what they are agreeing to.

What happens next

Upstorr uses the saved sender only after its required verification succeeds. New notification events follow the optional-email settings, and new checkouts display the enabled consent choices with your saved labels.

Common problems

  • A public sender is rejected: It must exactly match the merchant account email, or use your own domain.
  • The sender is not Verified: Recheck every DNS cell, keep proxy off, and allow propagation time.
  • An email switch is disabled: It belongs to the Always on group.
  • A customer did not get an optional email: Check the matching setting, their address, and the event's delivery result.
  • Marketing consent is missing: Enable the correct checkout checkbox, add its label, and save.
