What this helps you do
Change the current paired phone or tablet between:
- Outlet mode: a permanent outlet and one specific register.
- Exhibit mode: temporary events where staff choose the venue after entering their PIN.
This changes where future sales, stock activity, and cash sessions belong. It does not move an old order to the new place.
Before you start
- Sign in as a staff member with Manage POS devices permission.
- Close the current cash session.
- Finish or clear the current cart.
- For Outlet mode, make sure the required outlet has an active register not assigned to another active device.
Steps
- In POS, open More.
- Select Change Device Mode.
- Choose Outlet mode or Exhibit mode.
- For Outlet mode, choose the outlet first and then its register.
- Select Change device mode.
- Let POS return to the home screen and load its new location setup.
Understand each mode
Outlet mode
Choose this for a device that normally stays at one shop counter.
- Outlet: the permanent selling location.
- Register: the exact counter or till inside that outlet.
Only active outlets the staff member is allowed to manage appear. The Register list shows active registers at the selected outlet that are not already assigned to another active staff POS device.
Changing the Outlet clears the selected Register because a register belongs to one outlet only.
Exhibit mode
Choose this for a device that travels to fairs, pop-ups, exhibitions, and other temporary venues.
You do not choose a location or register in this mode-change form. After the change, a staff member enters their PIN and chooses an accessible exhibit venue. Upstorr then connects the device to that venue's exhibit register.
Understand what Upstorr clears
After a successful mode change, POS clears the old in-app store context and receives a fresh secure device session. This prevents the old outlet, register, staff access, product cache, or exhibit choice from leaking into the new mode.
Any active customer-facing display session for that device is also ended. Reconnect the customer display after the new mode is ready.
What happens next
The device returns to POS home using its new assignment.
- Outlet mode loads the chosen outlet and register.
- Exhibit mode asks staff to choose the event venue after PIN entry.
Common problems
- Change Device Mode is missing: the signed-in staff member does not have Manage POS devices permission.
- Close the cash session first: count and close the current session before moving the device. Cash from two places must not be mixed.
- The cart is not empty: finish or clear it before changing where the device works.
- No outlet is available for this manager: the staff member cannot manage an active outlet.
- No free register is available: create or activate a register, or release one assigned to another device.
- This register is already assigned: choose another register or change the other device's assignment first.
- The device is no longer paired: pair this installation again before changing its mode.
