What this helps you do
Continue a narrow set of safe cash work during an internet outage and confirm that it reaches Upstorr afterward.
Before you start
Do not assume every POS feature works offline. The device must already have the needed store, tax, product, customer, register, and permission information saved locally.
Steps
- Check the Online or Offline indicator.
- Use only cached products and supported carry-out or pickup work.
- For checkout, choose Cash and No receipt.
- Finish the sale only if POS says the cart supports offline checkout.
- Open Offline queue to see the saved job.
- Reconnect the device and leave POS open long enough to sync.
- Retry Failed or Blocked jobs only after reading and fixing the shown error.
- Confirm the job becomes Synced and open the real order afterward.
What can be queued
Depending on the already-saved device context, POS can queue supported cash checkout, new customer creation, register-session start, manual cash movement, and register-session close. Jobs that depend on another local job wait for it—for example, a sale using a newly created offline customer waits for that customer to sync first.
What offline checkout does not allow
- Online, Terminal, Gift Card, or split payment; only Cash is accepted offline.
- Digital products or gift-card products, because secure delivery needs internet.
- Ship-to-customer or Local delivery orders.
- A custom sale using anything except Carry out.
- A live discount code or custom cart discount.
- Email or WhatsApp receipt delivery; choose No receipt.
- An address outside India.
Location settings can also disable offline/manual payments completely.
Understand offline staff PINs
POS can recognise a staff PIN offline only when that staff member successfully used the same paired device recently and the device saved an eligible secure local record. A local PIN record expires after about 30 minutes, so offline access is for a short connection problem—not for keeping a device disconnected indefinitely.
The device keeps at most 20 recent local staff records. Five wrong offline PIN attempts lock the eligible local records for 15 minutes. Repeatedly guessing does not bypass the lock. Reconnect when the correct staff member was not recently saved on that device.
Understand queue statuses
- Queued: safely stored on the device and waiting to sync.
- Syncing: currently being sent.
- Synced: accepted by Upstorr.
- Retrying: another sync attempt is running.
- Failed: the attempt failed; read the error and retry after fixing it.
- Blocked: another required job failed or has not synced, so this job cannot proceed yet.
The summary shows Queued, Failed, and Total counts. A locally displayed provisional order is not final proof of server sync; look for Synced.
Retry in the right order
When a Blocked sale depends on a Failed customer or cash-session job, retry the earlier dependency first. After it becomes Synced, retry the sale. Retry needs internet.
What happens next
Synced cash sales become normal Upstorr orders. Local customer and register references are replaced with their saved server records, and the queue keeps the result for review.
POS also remembers a return or exchange request that was submitted but did not receive a clear final answer. Finish or safely recover that pending request before starting another return or exchange. If the saved request belongs to another store or its recovery details are damaged, contact support instead of repeating the adjustment and risking a second refund or stock change.
Common problems
- Checkout says tax settings must be synced: Reconnect so the current store GST settings can load.
- Only cash is available: This is an offline safety rule, not a missing payment setup.
- The correct PIN does not work offline: that staff member may not have a recent eligible record for this device and location. Reconnect and sign in online.
- Too many offline PIN attempts: wait 15 minutes or reconnect; do not keep guessing.
- A job remains Blocked: Fix and sync the dependency shown before retrying this job.
- A job keeps failing: Stop retrying blindly; record the shown error and contact support so the same sale is not recreated manually by mistake.
- A customer exists only on this device: Reconnect and wait for its Customer job to become Synced.
