Build reusable link lists for areas such as the storefront header and footer.

Before you start

Create the products, collections, pages, or blogs you want to link. The theme must have a menu setting that can use your saved menu.

Steps

  1. Open Online Store → Menus and select Add menu.
  2. Enter a private menu name. Upstorr creates its handle from this name.
  3. Select Add menu item.
  4. Enter the customer-facing label.
  5. Choose a destination type and the item to open.
  6. Add more items and drag them into the required order or submenu level.
  7. Select Save.
  8. In the theme editor, choose this menu in the appropriate header, footer, or menu section.

Handle

The handle is Upstorr's stable internal name for the menu. A theme uses it to identify the menu. It is not the customer-facing label of each link.

This is the clickable text customers see, such as “New arrivals.” Every menu item needs a label.

Destination

  • Collection: opens one selected collection.
  • Product: opens one active product.
  • Page: opens one saved Online Store page.
  • Blog: opens one saved blog.
  • Custom URL: accepts an internal path, complete https:// link, mailto: link, tel: link, or # placeholder.

Choosing a saved resource keeps both its resource identity and route. A custom URL is only text, so you must update it yourself if the destination changes.

Drag an item sideways under another item to nest it. The editor supports two nested levels below the top level. Moving a parent also moves its child links.

Use Add submenu item when you already know which parent should contain the new link. Use the arrow beside a parent to collapse or expand its children. On a smaller screen, open the item's actions menu to find Edit menu item, Add submenu item, and Remove menu item.

Removing an item also removes the links nested inside it from the draft. Check the whole tree before selecting Save.

Find or delete menus

The Menus list shows the private menu name, handle, and last updated time. Search or sort the list, then select a row to edit it.

You can select and delete several custom menus together. A default menu cannot be selected for deletion. Deleting a custom menu makes theme areas using it show no links until you choose a replacement menu.

What happens next

The menu becomes available to supported menu selectors in the theme editor. Saving a menu does not automatically place it in the header or footer.

Common problems

  • Menu will not save: every item needs both a label and a destination.
  • Choose a product/page/blog error: select a real resource instead of leaving the picker empty.
  • Links disappeared after deleting a menu: any theme setting using that menu has no links until another menu is selected.
  • Default menu cannot be deleted: protected menus are required by the storefront system.
