What this means
The Tax & Compliance section tells Upstorr how GST applies to one product. It appears when tax collection is turned on for the store.
Charge tax
Keep this selected when GST should be calculated for the product. Clear it only when the product should not have tax applied.
GST classification
Choose Goods for an item and Service for work performed for a customer. This choice decides whether Upstorr asks for an HSN code or a SAC code.
This is a tax classification. It is separate from the Product kind used for stock, delivery, and digital files.
HSN Code
An HSN code groups goods for GST. Upstorr requires one when Charge tax is on for normal taxable goods. You can select a saved code or create a new one.
SAC Code
A SAC code groups services for GST. Upstorr requires one when Charge tax is on for a normal taxable service.
GST Rate
This is the GST percentage applied to the product. Selecting a saved HSN or SAC code can also fill its saved GST rate and unit.
Unit Quantity Code (UQC)
UQC is the standard unit used on GST records. Choose how the product is counted, such as PCS-PIECES, KGS-KILOGRAMS, LTR-LITRES, SET-SETS, or OTH-OTHERS.
Exempt from GST
Select this only when the product is legally exempt from GST. Upstorr sets the rate to 0% and turns off Nil Rated.
Nil Rated
Select this when the product is taxable under GST law but its listed rate is 0%. Upstorr sets the rate to 0% and turns off Exempt from GST.
Simple example
You sell one cotton shirt. Select Goods, choose its correct HSN code, enter the correct GST rate, and use PCS-PIECES because each shirt is counted as one piece.
A design consultation is different. Select Service, choose its SAC code, and use the unit that matches how you bill it.
What you need to know
- If the editor says Prices are GST exclusive, the price field does not already include GST. Upstorr applies the tax using these settings.
- Exempt from GST and Nil Rated are not the same legal treatment even though both use a 0% rate.
- Upstorr does not allow both 0% options to be selected together.
- Switching between Goods and Service clears the code from the other classification.
- Use the code and rate that apply to your business and product. Ask your accountant or tax adviser when you are unsure; the help guide cannot decide a legal classification for you.
