What this helps you do
An inventory location is a real place where you keep stock, such as a shop, warehouse, kitchen, or office. Upstorr uses locations to know how much stock exists in each place and which place may fulfil an order.
Before you start
Keep the complete Indian address ready. If GST collection is enabled, add the store's GST registration for this location's state first. Your staff role must allow you to manage locations, and your plan must have space for another active inventory location.
Steps
- Open Inventory, then Inventory locations.
- Select Add location.
- Enter a Location Name, such as “Mumbai Warehouse”.
- Enter the address, city, postal code, and state.
- When address suggestions are available, choose the correct suggestion to save a verified map location.
- Choose Active or Inactive under Status.
- Turn Fulfillment on if stock at this place may be used to fulfil orders.
- Select Save.
Understand the special fields
Verified address
Selecting an address suggestion stores its exact map position. This becomes important for automated local delivery. If you manually change the address, city, state, or postal code afterward, the old verification is cleared because it may point to the wrong place.
Address verification is not required merely to save a normal inventory location. It is required when you want automated local delivery to use that location.
State and GST registration
When GST collection is enabled, Upstorr matches the location's state to a GST registration saved for the store. You cannot save a tax-enabled location in a state that has no matching GST registration.
For example, a Karnataka warehouse needs a Karnataka GST registration in Upstorr. This helps Upstorr use the correct registration for stock and order documents.
Status
- Active: the location can be used by current store operations and counts towards your plan's active-location limit.
- Inactive: the location stays in your records but is not available for normal active work.
Before making a location inactive, move or clear its stock and finish work that depends on it. Upstorr blocks the change if the location is still needed.
Fulfillment
Turn this on when inventory at the location may be used to prepare customer orders. Turning it off keeps the location and its stock records but tells Upstorr not to use that place for order fulfilment.
Default and Point of Sale labels
The locations list can show Default for the store's main inventory location. The Point of Sale status tells you whether that location is connected to active POS use; it is separate from the location's general Active status.
What happens next
The location becomes available for stock quantities and any allowed fulfilment work. Its Active status, fulfilment choice, GST state, and verified map position decide which other workflows can use it.
Common problems
- Save is grey: Enter a location name and make a change. A name can contain at most 200 characters.
- Upstorr asks for a GST registration: Add a registration for the exact state selected on the location.
- The location cannot be made inactive: Move or clear its stock and finish any active work that depends on it.
- The location cannot be deleted: Only an inactive, empty, unused location can be permanently deleted. History and settings that depend on it are protected.
- The verified location disappeared: A typed address change no longer matched the selected map place. Select the correct address suggestion again.
