What this means

The customer page contains a few fields that affect organisation and legal marketing permission, not just contact information.

Email

Every customer needs an email address. Inside one store, Upstorr uses the email to recognise an existing customer and avoid creating another profile for the same address.

Tags

Tags are short labels your team creates to organise customers. Separate several tags with commas.

For example, VIP, Jaipur, exhibition makes three tags. You can save up to 50 tags on one customer, and each tag can contain up to 60 characters.

Tags do not automatically give a discount or send a message. They only help your team identify and organise customers.

Notes

Notes are private information for your team, such as “Prefers evening delivery.” Customers do not see these notes. A note can contain up to 5,000 characters.

Do not store passwords, card details, or other highly sensitive information in notes.

Email marketing

Choose Yes only when the customer personally agreed to receive promotional emails from this store. An email address by itself is not permission.

WhatsApp marketing

Choose Yes only when the customer personally agreed to receive promotional WhatsApp messages from this store. A phone number must be saved before this can be enabled.

When you turn a marketing option on, Upstorr asks you to confirm that the customer agreed. You are responsible for keeping proof of that permission and for respecting every unsubscribe or opt-out request.

Turning consent off does not remove the customer's email or phone number. It only says that the channel must not be used for marketing.

Simple example

Riya gives you her phone number for a delivery update but never agrees to promotions. Save the number, but leave WhatsApp marketing as No. Contact information and marketing permission are two different things.

What you need to know

  • Tags and notes are for your team's organisation; they do not trigger discounts or messages by themselves.
  • A saved email or phone number is never automatic marketing permission.
  • Keep proof of consent and honour every opt-out request.
