What this means

An issued document number identifies its series, Indian financial year, and place in that series.

For example, RTL-2627-0001 has three parts:

  • RTL means a retail online order.
  • 2627 means the 2026-27 Indian financial year.
  • 0001 means the first document in that series for the merchant and financial year.

Other prefixes you may see are:

  • POS for Point of Sale orders.
  • CN for credit notes.
  • DN for debit notes.
  • RR for refund receipts.

Simple example

If the first retail online document in financial year 2026-27 is RTL-2627-0001, the next number in that same series is RTL-2627-0002. A debit note has its own sequence, such as DN-2627-0001.

What you need to know

  • Upstorr uses India time to choose the financial year.
  • A new Indian financial year begins in April.
  • Each prefix has its own sequence for each merchant and financial year.
  • Credit notes, debit notes, and refund receipts do not reuse the retail invoice sequence.
  • Do not treat an order number and a document number as the same thing. One order can have more than one document.
